If you haven’t played it already, Bulletstorm by Epic Games is a title that I personally found to be disappointing. The game had awesome potential with it’s innovative methods of killing enemies and huge selection of weapons but, unfortunately, the gameplay is stagnant. Every mission is practically the same.. run through broken bridges and rough terrain to brutally murder enemies is a stylish fashion. The game becomes very stale after even just 2 or 3 completed levels.
Aside from the repetitive gameplay that game does have a large variety of weapons to make us of which all do slightly different things ranging from acting as a grappling hold to slingshot enemies up and down to blasting them into spikes for bonuses. The enemies are all very similar with clumsy actions making them super easy targets. The game difficulty, even when set to its highest, is still a breeze.
The story behind the game is none too pleasing either. It lacks in depth and interest. In fact, at times there seems to be no relevant story behind the missions you play through or even the character back stories. So if you’re someone who craves a game with structure and a story that will keep you motivated to play through to the end, forget about it, Bulletstorm doesn’t offer anything near that.
All in all I’d give Bulletstorm a rating of 5 out of 10 and that’s being generous. I’m not a fan of games that are this repetitive and lacking in fine details. This is literally a game you can play for maybe 30 minutes at a time and then have to switch to another out of pure boredom. If you don’t mind dropping $29.99 to do just that, by all means, get the game, but for those of us who like to save our pennies for GOOD games, just move on.
